Frank Lampard's 15 Most Memorable Chelsea Moments

10. Goal vs Liverpool, Champions League Semi-final, 2008

This list is filled with great goals from Frank Lampard, this entry may only be a penalty, but it is the situation surrounding this goal that makes it deserving of its place. On the 25th April, Pat Lampard, mother of Frank, sadly lost her battle with pneumonia, at the age of 52. The type of event that quite rightly triggers the phrase €œputs football into perspective€. Frank was very close to his mother and it was thought that Lampard might miss the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool, but he decided to play the crucial game, saying it was what his mother would€™ve wanted. The first leg finished 1-1, with Chelsea notching a crucial away goal for the second leg, in which Drogba opened the scoring before the game was levelled by Fernando Torres and went to extra time. And then, the moment arose: Michael Ballack was felled in the area and it was the job of Lampard to convert. Lampard sent Pepe Reina the wrong way and wheeled away in delight, kissing the black armband he was wearing to remember his mother€™s passing. The emotion was raw, Lampard was overjoyed to have something to dedicate to her memory. Chelsea went onto win 3-2 on the night, 4-3 on aggregate, securing a Champions League final meeting with Manchester United.
