Gateshead 0-1 Newcastle – NUFC Match Ratings

21. Siem De Jong: 6/10

Still unsure of Siem De Jong's best position. On occasions he dropped extremely deep to collect the ball almost in the middle of midfield meaning the fluidity of the attack was broken down as he then lacked support. He looks more comfortable when receiving the ball in more dangerous areas, higher up the pitch. He struggled to impose himself in the final third tonight and still looks unsure.

22. Adam Armstrong: 6/10

Armstrong drifted into pockets of space well and seems to look natural driving through the middle towards goal. His passing was deadly accurate and he should have scored. The striker cut inside well from the left hand side and despite beating Gateshead keeper, Shaun MacDonald, he saw his shot go just wide of the right-hand post. Another chance fell for the attacker as he rounded the goalkeeper but didn't put enough power on the shot meaning the goalkeeper managed to get back in time. Physically Armstrong looked tougher and despite his small frame he is starting to show signs he is capable of playing at the highest level.
