Gus Poyet New Sunderland Manager: 5 Things Black Cats Fans Can Expect

5. Victory Over Newcastle United

Alan Pardew 2 New Sunderland manager Gus Poyet faces something of a baptism of fire when his stint at the Stadium of Light officially gets off the runway in a fortnight. He will have what will probably be a much-welcomed period of respite over the international break before his tenure as Black Cats boss gets underway against Swansea. After which is the Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle. Fortunately for Sunderland fans, Poyet has a good record against the Magpies - both as a player and a manager. He scored twice against them in the FA Cup semi-finals for Chelsea in 2000 and has beaten them two seasons in a row as manager at Brighton in the FA Cup. We also saw what happened the last time these two sides met. Sunderland had just named Paolo Di Canio their new manager on April 1, and 13 days later went on to earn a romping 3-0 win over Newcastle. Can lightning strike twice?
