How A World Football XI Might Look In 5 Years Time

Striker - NEYMAR

Ok, so we all know Neymar isn't a striker, and he probably won't be playing there in five years time either. There doesn't appear to be a truly world-class young striker in the making though, and who's to say the Brazilian won't have altered his game in the way Messi did in five years time, becoming something of a 'false nine' rather than a wide player. Like a few players on this list, Neymar has had plenty of detractors over the years, with many not convinced by the unbelievable hype surrounding the 22-year-old. Over the last 12 months though, even his biggest doubters must accept he has been superb. It's now clear to see why so many 'experts' feel he is the natural heir to Messi and Ronaldo at the top of the world game. The Brazil captain struggled to adjust to life at Barcelona early on last season, but his performances became more and more influential as the campaign progressed. His performances for his country at the World Cup were inspirational, and the tournament-ending injury he picked up in the quarter-final sent a shockwave through the entire host nation. He's started this season brilliantly, scoring 11 in 12 games for Barca, and his pace, trickery, finishing and all-round game are improving all the time. The former wonderkid is maturing into an astonishing player, and by 2019 we may well be speaking about him in the same breath as some of the true greats of the game.
