5. Ezequiel Garay
With veteran centre back John Terry entering the final year of his contract
and no guarantees he will stay at Stamford Bridge beyong this summer, don't be too surprised if Jose Mourinho brings in a new centre back for his second stint in West London. Terry was a loyal servant of Mourinho's between 2004 and 2007 and, along with midfielder Frank Lampard, forged a close relationship with the Portuguese. But the landscape at Stamford Bridge is now a very different one and there can be no room for sentimentality. The former England international has endured a season undermined by injury of late and perhaps now is the time, when change is everywhere in West London, to bring in a replacement. The Europa League champions have been
linked with a move for Benfica's Ezequiel Garay, who so excelled against them in last week's final in Amsterdam. The powerfully-built 26-year old Argentinian is considered one of the best centre halves in European football and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but since Mourinho still has contacts in Portugal and knows how the market operates, Chelsea could have the upper hand in the race for his signature.
