LA Galaxy Sign Robbie Keane From Tottenham

Former Liverpool and Inter Milan striker joins Beckham Stateside for a fee of around £3.5 million.

Tottenham forward Robbie Keane has decided to leave the Premiership entirely and head to LA Galaxy. The Republic of Ireland captain, who made 254 appearances for Tottenham in two spells, scoring 107 times in total and who spent the back end of last season at relegated West Ham joins the MLS club on a two year deal, with the fee set at around £3.5m. At the minute, the move is still subject to work permit clearance, but it is expected to go through without a hitch, meaning a move away from the Los Angeles club for former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel looks increasingly likely as the squad can only contain three "designated players" outside of the wage cap. And with Landon Donovan and David Beckham making up the trio, it looks like Angel may move out, with Philadelphia Union expressing an interest already. The move for Keane is likely to be welcomed by Galaxy fans, as the 31 year old has never had a problem finding the net throughout a career that has also seen him play at Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, Liverpool and Celtic. Tottenham Hotspur released the following statement in reaction to the deal:

The club can announce that it has reached agreement with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy for the permanent transfer of Robbie Keane. We wish him all the best for the future.
