2. Dwight Howard
The Howard transfer saga this summer can be compared to the Ronaldo and Fabregas transfer sagas a few years ago, and for those who follow the EPL then that will really put into perspective just how hotly pursued he was. After looking to be on the verge of joining D-Will in Brooklyn in a sort of Super-Team being built by Jay-Z and his billionaire-backer, Howard ended up joining the Purple and Yellow Dynasty. The route he took to the Lakers reminded most NBA supporters of another transfer that shaped the NBA for years to come, as a certain Shaquille ONeill arrived in LA from Orlando. As we all know Shaq went on to dominate the league for years, and people are really expecting more-of-the-same from Dwight. Hes big and powerful, a former Slam Dunk Contest winner for his infamous Superman dunk and not to mention a three time defensive player of the year. He has come in as the manner who will take the mantle as the Franchise Player when Kobe eventually decides to retire. So how has he been this season? Poor compared to his normally extremely high standards, but this can be attributed with fitness problems and the overall settling into one of the NBAs most decorated sides. BUT it must be said that in the Lakers recent run, Howard has started to look like the Dwight of old. Friday nights game against the Raptors marked, what some may hope, as the night where the team finally realised how its going to challenge the Heat, Knicks, Clippers and Spurs as the top teams in the NBA: Dwight leads the defense and Kobe leads the offense. If this continues to be the case for the rest of the season one can see the Lakers, not only getting to the playoffs but also, push these tops teams and make a claim for the NBA Championship.
