With Gerard Houllier's side 1-0 down to bitter rivals Everton at Goodison Park, the then 21-year-old collected the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area, shifted it to his right before thundering home a sensational strike in the top left-hand corner. He wheeled away in delight, sticking his tongue out in front of the home fans as he ran down the touchline. It was the first of many goals by Gerrard against the Toffees; they must be sick of the sight of him.
