4. The Fabled Top 4 Is Too Far Off (This Season, Anyway)
Point number 4, ironically, is that the top 4 is too much of an ask for this Liverpool squad. The squad isn't big enough and the starting XI is not consistent enough. Teams like Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Chelsea are still a step ahead of the Reds in terms of squad depth and consistency. The good thing is, is that Liverpool have a younger squad than all the other top 4 candidates and are therefore given a bit of understanding in that department. People have to remember that Sterling is only 18 and has played the majority of Liverpool's games this season, Wisdom is only 18 and Suso is just 19. These players don't know what it takes to get into the top 4 and beyond because in their short careers they've not done anything like that before. I think in the next 2-3 years Liverpool will be much more competitive with a more mature set of academy graduates and a better FSG invested squad - making them much more capable of challenging the best teams in the league more consistently.
