Liverpool: 5 Positive Things We Learnt From Man Utd Defeat

5. Brendan Rodgers Is Tactically Astute and Willing To Change When Needed

A very good sign that comes from the Manchester United game is that Brendan Rodgers is completely ready to make big decisions during the game rather than waiting until it's too late to change - thus, avoiding scenarios where games skip b without challenge. This is a big improvement when you compare him to Benitez and Dalglish. Dalglish often waited until the last minute to make only his second sub but Brendan sees when his team is being beaten and sees things that can wrestle control back into Liverpool's favour. Bringing Sturridge on changed the game into Liverpool's favour and meant the match was a contest again rather than a rollover victory for United. He's done this before too against Wigan Athletic when he hauled Suso off after just 35 minutes at Anfield - to allow Liverpool to press harder with Henderson and disrupt Wigan's Martinez inspired passing style. Liverpool wrestled their way into the game and came out deserved 3-0 victors. I think this may well be the most important point on this list because it proves to Liverpool fans, and fans of other teams that, LFC have a good manager not just some upstart who fluked it with Swansea. It proves he is pro-active on the touchline rather than behaving idly and watching the game go by and simply shouting, "come on" and, "work hard, work hard" (like I do at 5-a-side!). The fact Rodgers is willing to shuffle his deck even if it means admitting he made a mistake with his original starting XI is a big one and shows a man who cares more for the team and the club than he does himself. Do you agree with the points on this list? Did you see any other points BR and the fans could take from the United game? If so, let us know in the comments section below or tweet me at @ZAForster.
