9. Mehdi Benatia - Centre-Back

Of course, this may be a little pie in the sky, as Benatia has not signed for Liverpool, but if they managed to acquire the Roma star it would be a wonderful piece of business by the club. The 27-year-old was unquestionably one of the best defenders in Europe in 2013/14, and his consistently superb displays ensured Roma conceded just 25 goals in their 38 Serie A matches. Benatia joined the Italian giants from Udinese last summer, but such is his growing reputation that a move to an even bigger club now looks likely. The Morocco has been linked with a move to Anfield on various occasions throughout the summer, but the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United have expressed a keen interest as well. A centre-back partnership of Lovren and Benatia would give Liverpool one of the most talented defensive duos in the Premier League, and with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho more than able deputies in that area, it would surely help eradicate last season's woes at the back.
