5. Philippe Coutinho - Attacking Midfield
If one player has stood out more than any other during pre-season it's Coutinho, and the Brazilian looks as though a huge season awaits for him. With Suarez's exit leaving a gaping hole in the team, Rodgers was looking for players to step up, and Coutinho is doing just that. He has steadily improved since arriving from Inter Milan in January 2013, and is proving to be an absolute bargain at £8.5m. The 22-year-old is one of the Premier League's most naturally gifted young players. He can pass, dribble and has outrageous skill, and if he can just become a little more ruthless in front of goal he will be the complete package. At 22, he has so much time to grow as a player, and you feel it won't be long until Liverpool are having to fight off interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs. Although the former Inter Milan star can flourish in a wide role, he is at his most destructive at the top of a midfield three, weaving his magic and unlocking defences with ease. His Brazil call-up is richly deserved- it still seems ridiculous that he wasn't selected for this summer's World Cup- and he is only going to get better from this point on.
