Liverpool Transfer News: Nuri Sahin Joins Anfield On Loan

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is close to arriving at Anfield on a season-long loan deal.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is close to arriving at Anfield on a season-long loan deal. Speaking at the post-match press conference of his side's 1-0 victory over Hearts in the Europa League Fourth Round Qualifying Match last night, Rodgers claimed the deal to sign Sahin was "quite far along". Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has publicly admitted that he was seeking a loan move away from the Bernabeu for the Turkish international and after much speculation that had linked him with joining The Gunners, Sahin instead now looks destined to arrive on Merseyside in the next few days. The 23-year-old was seen as a potential replacement for midfield enforcer Alex Song at Arsenal but it looks to be Liverpool who have run the race for his signature on a temporary deal. Sahin made just 11 appearances for La Liga champions Real Madrid last season but after failing to become a first team regular, boss Jose Mourinho decided it was in his best intentions to ply his trade away from the Santiago Bernabeu for a season. Rodgers said last night;
"Hopefully in the next 24 hours we will get some confirmation on that," said the Liverpool manager after his side's Europa League win at Hearts. "It's quite far along. He's a very good footballer."
