Agger followed in the footsteps of compatriot Jan Molby to join Liverpool in January 2005 for £6M from Brondby and quickly became a fan favourite on Merseyside. The defender established himself as first choice alongside Jamie Carragher for a long period of his Anfield career and was somewhat of a new breed of centre-backs - he was comfortable on the ball, willing to drive forward from his own half and netted some superb goals including his first against West Ham United. He also defended extremely well, looking calm and collected at the back, never really coming under much danger from strikers. His form saw him given the captaincy for his country and has 65 caps for his country thus far. Agger aided Liverpool to win the FA Cup in 2006 playing in early round ties and then almost helped the club capture the Champions League once again a year later. When Carragher announced his retirement, the Danish International was given vice-captaincy of the club and took on the role well. Now sold back to Brondby, he will remain in Reds' hearts thanks to his commanding performances.
