Liverpool Transfers: 10 Best Ever Bargains

7. Fernando Torres

Some may say that £20M is a fairly hefty fee, but for how Fernando Torres performed at Liverpool, it proved to be a cut-price. 'El Nino' arrived on the shores of the River Mersey in August 2007, making a switch from Athletico Madrid. For a few years, Liverpool had some bad luck regarding strikers - Djbril Cisse and Fernando Morientes didn't cut the mustard at Anfield and the Reds even re-signed Robbie Fowler to fill the gap. But Torres was a different matter. He was a goal-machine in La Liga, however some doubted whether his physical appearance would be up to Premier League standard. He very much proved the doubters wrong on his home debut against Chelsea when he scored a wonderful solo goal to earn the Reds a point. Torres started how he meant to go on, scoring 65 goals during his time at the club, despite being troubled with injury for periods. The Spaniard had everything you look for in a forward - pace, power, aerial ability and most importantly an eye for goal. Liverpool fans will never forget his goal against Middlesbrough, when Torres took a long ball on his chest and fired his shot from outside the box into the top corner. He was sold in January 2011 to Chelsea for £50M - a huge profit for Liverpool. However Torres had already very much served his time on Anfield, and he touched every Liverpool fan's heart with his goal.
