Liverpool Transfers: 5 Left-Backs Brendan Rodgers Must Sign

1. Fábio Coentrão

FabioCoentrao Perhaps a fanciful target, but the Real Madrid left-back does represent the sort of ambition that Rodgers needs to take the Reds to the next level. Rodgers spoke recently of his desire to make a "marquee signing" this summer and Coentrao would be precisely that. The Portuguese international has struggled at Real recently, and had to contest for a place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI last season alongside Marcelo and Arbeloa, whose continued presence limited the 25-year-old to just the 16 La Liga appearances last season. Like Assou-Ekotto, Coentrao could be tempted by a new challenge next season and, along with rivals Chelsea, is on Liverpool's radar this summer. Deposed Premier League champions Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the £18 million-rated defender, meaning Liverpool would have plenty of competition should they follow through their interest with a serious bid this summer. Do you think Liverpool need a new left-back this summer? Who should Brendan Rodgers sign? Let us know in the comment section, below.
