Liverpool Transfers: 5 Midfield Replacements For Steven Gerrard

Jamie Carragher is retiring from football after playing for Liverpool for the best part of two decades. His absence will then leave Liverpool fans with a headache and a day they will fear, the day that their last stalwart will leave the Anfield stage and his role as the force driving the Reds forward will be relinquished. But who will fill the role? Who will be the club's next midfield superstar and help to guide Liverpool to what their fans hope will be silverware. Personally, although the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Connor Coady and Jordan Henderson are all currently at the club, I do not believe that Liverpool have the players currently in their system to follow their legend, so there are the central midfielders who I believe could be great replacements for Steven Gerrard, the best English midfielder of his generation...

ander herrera In a league boasting so many top quality playmakers, anyone who follows football will have heard of Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera, which is simply a testament to his ability and potential- he is only 23, yet has been linked with what seems to be every team a player may dream of playing for, with all of the big teams in the Premier League having been credited with an interest in signing the player, along with Real Madrid while Barcelona's sporting director has apparently met with Bilbao's manager to discuss the acquisition of the Spanish playmaker. Ever since helping the Spanish under 21 side to European Championship glory in 2011, after scoring against England in the group as well as in the final against their Swiss counterparts, he has been one of the most desired transfer targets for any team who could afford his price tag. Only last year Herrera helped to guide his unfancied club to the Europa League final, beating the likes of Manchester United en route, and it can only be a matter of time before he leaves his boyhood club to reach the pinnacle of European football, and signing for Liverpool could be a good move for him, leaving him playing in one of the World's top divisions at a club which has, for the last five to ten years, has had a huge pool of Spanish and Latin American talent, so he wouldn't be out of place- could his signing for Liverpool coincide with both reaching the Champions' League?
