4. Pack The Midfield
It is a fair thing to say that Palace lack the quality of most other Premier League teams. Having been promoted the hard way from the Championship things were always going to be tough for them and they have found their worst fears a reality taking only 3 points from 6 games in the season. If I were Holloway I would play a breaking 4-5-1 and pack the midfield to minimise the space afforded to the Liverpool midfield. If it can work for Chelsea against Barcelona then why not for Palace? The principle behind this tactic is simple, flood the centre of the pitch thus forcing the likes of Henderson and Allen into gifting possession back to Palace. If you have possession of the ball it means the opposition aren't attacking you and keeping the ball in the Liverpool half would be a helpful way to keep that clean sheet. It would also give them confidence if they had some time on the ball and could even try playing the sort of football I know Holloway would like them to. Liverpool chasing shadows would work in Palace's favour as they would hopefully tire and with less options on the bench (Lucas suspended and Coutinho injured) it cause prove an interesting dilemma for Rogers should Palace do the next important point of my article...
