Liverpool's 10 Greatest Champions League Victories

9. Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal (2008)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhdC1r4SBsI By 2008, Rafa Benitez had turned Liverpool into one of the Champions League's most respected teams. They were incredibly tough to beat, and in Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, they had a quartet that would have got into any side in Europe at the time. Having drawn 1-1 with Arsenal in the quarter-final first-leg at the Emirates, with Dirk Kuyt cancelling out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener, the tie was set up for a thrilling second-leg. It didn't disappoint. The Gunners got off to a sensational start, passing the ball brilliantly and dominating the hosts. Abou Diaby fired them ahead in front of the Kop, and things looked bleak for Benitez and his team. Sami Hyypia levelled the tie on aggregate soon after, however, powering home a header. In the second-half, Torres scored a sensational effort to put Liverpool ahead, and it stayed that way until six minutes from time. Theo Walcott's unbelievable run from his own half led to Adebayor stunning the home crowd with a cool finish, and it looked as though Liverpool were beaten. The game took another twist though, as Ryan Babel was brought down by Kolo Toure in the penalty area. Gerrard ruthlessly dispatched the late spot-kick, and Anfield went wild. Babel put the icing on the cake in the dying seconds, racing clear and finishing emphatically. It was one of the best Champions League clashes in recent memory.
