4. The Rafa Benitez "Fact" Rant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOaZYhTd2BU During the 2008/09 season, Liverpool were at the peak of their powers under Benitez. The Spaniard had turned them into one of the most respected teams in the Champions League, and now they were mounting a genuine title push in the Premier League. Reina was supreme in goal, Carragher was brilliant at the back, the midfield trio of Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Gerrard was the most complete in Europe at the time and Fernando Torres was the finest striker on the planet. By the end of 2008, the Reds were top of the league, the most in-form side in the country and looking like title favourites. Benitez then did the unthinkable. He got into a war of words with Sir Alex Ferguson, who was clearly worried about Liverpool, launching a tirade against him in a press conference and continually talking about "facts". He had completely fallen for his mind games. The incident affected Liverpool's performances drastically, and a run of poor results in early 2009 handed the initiative to United. Although the Reds put up a fight in the end, there is every chance they would have been crowned champions had Benitez just kept his mouth shut.
