Man City: 4 Manager Short-List To Replace Roberto Mancini

1. Guus Hiddink

hiddink Often forgotten about, Guus Hiddink is the only manager at Chelsea under trigger-happy owner Roman Abramovich to have not been forced to leave his position, and if that is not a testament to his managerial abilities, I do not know what is. Yes, they are friends, but Abramovich does not strike me as a man who would let sentimentality get in the way of business. The Dutchman is currently the manager at another incredibly wealthy club, Russia's Anzhi, so he would not come cheap. However, he guided what I would look upon as a real mixed bag of a team- some superstars, such as Samuel Eto'o and Willian, mixed with a bunch of unheard of Eastern Europeans and Asians (an assortment I can only imagine is down to the Russian League's transfer regulations)- to the Europa League last 16, only to lose out against Newcastle. Hiddink is a man who has a superb reputation as a manager at both club and country level, boasting clubs like Real Madrid and PSV on his CV, the latter of whom he guided to the 2004/05 semi finals of the Champions' League. At international level, he has managed the unfancied South Korea to the semi finals of the 2002 World Cup, although match fixing allegations could cloud this achievement. In addition to this, he managed Australia to the 2006 World Cup through the play offs, and was fondly looked upon by Australian fans and media alike, with many pro-Guus headlines emblazoned in the press and the chanting of Hiddink's name throughout the nation's matches. He also guided Russia to the latter stages of Euro 2008, where they were defeated by his compatriots from Holland. It has been suggested that Hiddink has already decided to retire from football management at the end of this season- could one last pay day tempt him to change his mind? Do you have anything to add? Comment below if you do!
