8. Maicon
City completed the signing of Brazilian right-back Maicon on 31st August 2012, and less than a year on the 32-year-old is no longer at the Etihad. While it may have appeared a shrewd move at the time, Maicon failed to impress in sky blue and was only given a limited number of opportunities by Roberto Mancini. Despite the Brazilians wealth of experience and excellent reputation, he struggled to even make the substitutes bench towards the end of last season and was eventually told he didn't have a future at the club by new boss Manuel Pellegrini. City sold Maicon to AS Roma this summer for
a fee of £3 million.
