Man City Transfers: Ranking Manuel Pellegrini's Signings From Worst To Best

6. Fernandinho - £30 Million From Shakhtar Donetsk

You can't help but scratch your head in puzzlement and wonder why on earth City paid £30 million for a 28-year-old defensive midfielder. His arrival makes even less sense when you also take into account the Sky Blues already have a virtually-identical player in Yaya Toure. Fernandinho's presence will likely allow the latter to bomb forward in attack a little more often, which he has done by scoring in two of City's first three games, but as for the man himself, is he really worth £30 mill? With Gareth Barry sent out on loan to Everton, one could make the case that there is room for the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, but again, you can't help but raise an eyebrow over the fee paid for a player who has only made 5 appearances for Brazil and is in the latter stages of his career. Time will tell if this one turns out to be a good investment.
