Perhaps the unsung hero when it comes to Manchester United breaking down their opposition, Carrick provides a smart and calculated approach to starting attacks from deep in his own half. Michael Carrick is an integral cog in the Manchester United midfield and alongside Marouane Fellaini, the pair contain the mixture of ability necessary to dominate Premier League matches. Carrick has been an ever present in the United squad so far this season, and has been a consistent yet quiet force in the centre of the park in all 6 games he has played in. It is a wonder in fact, that Carrick is still overlooked for a place in the England squad, especially with the current shortcomings in the midfield. The fact of the matter is, Carrick is vastly unappreciated by many in the English game. Come Sunday, Yaya Toure and Fernandinho will have to be wary of the threat Carrick possesses when it comes to spreading the play and playing smart balls into the more attacking players in the squad.
