Man Ud Transfers: 5 Players Louis Van Gaal Could Sign To Break British Record

4. Arturo Vidal

It seems as though Manchester United have been chasing Arturo Vidal forever and the Juventus midfielder's potential move to Old Trafford has been one of the summer's more protracted transfer rumours. There's little doubting United need Vidal, given the state of their current crop of central midfielders, with the likes of Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini particularly dire last season. The signing of the Chilean international would instantly transform the Red Devils into title contenders again while giving them much more bite in their engine room, with the tough-tackling, combative midfielder earning comparisons to United legend Roy Keane. If Louis van Gaal wants him though, he may have to put the £50 million Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in the shade with some reports suggesting he's readying a £50 million + Nani part-player-part-cash offer worth up to £62 million. United will be hoping to get him for less than that but if £50 million is what it takes to sign one of the world's best midfield players at the moment - and if Ed Woodward has the bottomless pit of transfer funds at his disposal he says he does, then the Red Devils should proceed with the move immediately - very few would mourn the loss of Nani, either.
