3. Luke Shaw
Southampton youngster Luke Shaw is the latest in a long line of prestigious academy products on the South Coast to be linked to the Premier League's top teams. Under Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Saints are flying high in the early months of this season. Shaw has looked assured way beyond his tender years up and down the left flank. There is no better evidence for this than the superb defensive record Southampton have established so far. Just three goals conceded in nine matches is outstanding. Going forward 18-year-old Shaw has all the potential and ability reflecting the hype surrounding him. Should his development continue apace either with the Saints or at a Premier League heavyweight, it only seems to be a matter of time before he is an England regular.
Shaw could cost £25 million, but there is absolutely no doubt that would be seen as money well spent right now. His arrival at Old Trafford would continue the best of British tradition which has been a cornerstone of the club's philosophy for decades. The only fly in the ointment is there are reports that Shaw would
favour a switch to boyhood club Chelsea over United. Moyes must make a great sales pitch, then, if he is to land this target.
