Man Utd Transfer News: David Moyes Could Announce Thiago Signing Today At First Press Conference?

ESPN, David Moyes could announce the signing of Thiago Alcantara in his first press conference as Manchester United boss today. The Barcelona youngster has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since the player€™s release clause dropped from £77 million to just £15 million due to the added clause in the Spaniard's contract. The Red Devils are favourites to land the 22-year-old despite interest from Premier League rivals, Chelsea and constant attempts from Barcelona to hijack the deal by trying to secure the youngster on a long-term deal. Sky Sports expert, Graham Hunter, has already suggested the deal is very close and with Moyes having his first press conference later today, Thiago could be one of many issues the Scot wants to address. If Moyes does announce the signing of Thiago, then he would officially be the first transfer under David Moyes because the club's first summer signing, Guillermo Varela, was technically the last transfer of the Sir Alex Ferguson reign. Moyes is also set to reveal the status of unhappy Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney who was set to hold talks with the club earlier this week. Rooney handed in his second transfer request in the last three years but the Premier League champions are determined to keep the Englishman at the club. Moyes officially began his job at Manchester United on Monday 1st July and since then has already appointed a completely new backroom staff with Ryan Giggs and Phillip Neville both being given coaching roles.
