One of the most notable "marquee signings" United have been tipped to make in recent times is Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan. Gundogan was an integral cog in Dortmund's Bundesliga-winning season in 2011-12 and likewise helped the Germans reach the final of the Champions League last May. A playmaking central midfielder, the 23-year-old is considered one of the best young stars in Europe and is also on Real Madrid's radar. Gundogan put contract extension talks at the Westfalenstadion on hold last month which, along with Madrid, has also alerted United to his potential availability.
