Man Utd Transfers: 10 Former Players Van Gaal Must Bring With Him
9. Kevin Strootman - Roma
He might be currently injured and out for a number of months but Strootman is one of the triumvirate of Van Gaal's most important players in the Holland set-up and his absence from the World Cup this summer will be to the cost of the team as a whole. When he does return from injury, presumably to go straight back into Roma's team where he has been a success since signing from Holland last year, he is likely to continue building his profile as one of the best midfielders in Europe in his position at the minute. With a serious midfield overhaul necessary at United as well as additions to the defence, Van Gaal would be smart to look to his Dutch talisman to replace the so-far failed Marouane Fellaini, if the decision is made to cut losses on him and move him on for whatever they can get out of his massively inflated transfer fee. Apparently, Van Gaal has already identified Strootman as one of his targets, presumably based on his value to Holland, and how well his athletic playing side would work in the Premier League alongside the players Van Gaal will surely retain like Juan Mata.
