Man Utd Transfers: 10 More Players Louis van Gaal MUST Sign Before Deadline Day

2. Mats Hummels

Having already signed Marcos Rojo this summer, Manchester United are still in the market for one more world class centre-half because their current options in this area - Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans - make for a very brittle pairing at the back. Neither instil any sort of confidence and the overriding feeling is United need someone with proven experience. Mats Hummels would be the perfect signing. He played all but one of Germany's World Cup games as they marched on to win the competition, and was shortlisted for FIFA's Golden Ball award for the tournament's best player, but lost out to Lionel Messi. He was nevertheless named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team as reward for his performances and has gone on to establish himself as one of the world's best centre-backs over the last few seasons. United have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 25-year-old this summer but have been warned off by Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, who insists his player is going nowhere. The Red Devils need a defender of Hummel's ability however and should pay whatever it takes to bring him to Old Trafford before next Monday.
