Panic buy? Fall guy? Simply never good enough? David Moyes brought Marouane Fellaini with him from Everton for a fee of £27.5million in a last-minute deadline day deal after the Belgian had been brilliant under the Scotsman, dominating play in midfield and helping the club perform brilliantly in the league. But Manchester United was a completely different proposition for both Fellaini and Moyes. Expectation can be a powerful impediment, and at United the big-haired midfielder looked clumsy, frequently losing the ball and failing spectacularly to be the formidable force in the air he was for the Toffees and looked completely uncomfortable in the United midfield. He made just 16 appearances in the his first season at United, and was named in The Daily Telegraph's '10 Worst Buys of the Premier League Season.' The central midfield role is an important one at Manchester United, and whilst hardly any of United's players performed this season, Fellaini seemed to stick out like a sore thumb and not just because of his hair, which rather unfortunately seemed the appropriate clownish crown as he fluffed his lines again and again. Rumour has it that the Belgian looks set to join Napoli on loan - with a view to a £15m permanent deal later - a brilliant price given his awful performances for the Red Devils last season and the club will be lucky to be getting over half of what they paid for the midfield flop.
