Man Utd Transfers: 5 Alternatives For Thiago Alcantara

3. Sven Bender

Sven Bender Manchester United were hoping to sign Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski this summer, but are set to miss out on the striker to Champions League winners Bayern Munich. They could however swoop for another Dortmund player this summer - Lars Bender. Bender, whose brother Sven plays for Bayer Leverkusen, is on the radar of both Manchester clubs this summer following a string of impressive performances last season. The 24-year-old excelled particularly in Dortmund's 4-1 routing of Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals and was an integral cog in the team that reached the final of Europe's top club competition last season. Bender is a defensive midfielder who has been capped at international level by Germany 4 times, and has made over 100 appearances for Dortmund so far. With Michael Carrick turning 32 at the end of the month, United could use a new, more youthful defensive midfielder and Bender could be just the ticket.
