Man Utd Transfers - 5 Centre-Back Alternatives To Mats Hummels

1. Ezequiel Garay

Ezequiel Garay has been linked with a move to Manchester United in each of the last three transfer windows now and finally looks set to complete his move to Old Trafford this summer. Garay was wanted by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and his successor David Moyes continued that interest last summer, but a move failed to materialise. And now, it appears as though Louis van Gaal is about to achieve what his two predecessors couldn't by wrapping up a deal for the powerfully built Argentina defender. Garay has been in excellent form for current club Benfica of late, and has helped them reach each of the last two Europa League finals. At 6'2", he is also a highly physical, combative and imposing centre-half in the mould of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, and handed United a boost recently by admitting he is unsure whether he will stay in Portugal beyond this summer. Garay is the ideal player to form part of United's new-look defence next season - missing out on Hummels is bad enough, missing out on Garay would be a disaster.
