Man Utd Transfers: 5 Essential Summer Targets

4. Leighton Baines

Baines Another area of the pitch some say is in need of improvement is at left-back. With Patrice Evra now 31, his reliability has been called into question recently and a number of average performances this season has led to speculation that he could be on his way out of Old Trafford. Once one of United's most reliable and trusted players, the Frenchman has captained both club and country throughout his career, but there are concerns that age is starting to creep up on the defender, who along with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, makes up a defence lacking a worrying amount of pace. Considered Europe's best left-back, Everton's Leighton Baines has reportedly been on Ferguson's radar for quite some time, and the veteran Scot could be weighing up a £15 million bid for the player this summer, according to the Daily Mail. Much like Evra, Baines is an attacking left-back who can score the occasional goal or two, and has also been a prominent contributor of goals for David Moyes' side. He is four years younger than Evra, too, and his purchase would provide Ferguson's defence with a much needed injection of youthful vitality.
