Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons Wayne Rooney Should Quit Old Trafford This Month

2. He€™s Provided The Most Assists This Season, But His Team Aren€™t Attacking Enough

I€™m not quite done with praising Rooney just yet, as creativity is clearly a very important part of his game. However, anyone that has watched Man Utd on a regular basis this season will know that they seem to be missing a spark that they always had under Ferguson. It was that spark that told you that United weren€™t out of the game even when they were two or three goals down. This season though they don€™t seem to have the ability to bounce back into games like they used to, and one of the reasons behind that is they aren€™t set-up tactically to be the ruthless attacking force they once were. Rooney is the leading provider of assists so far this season with nine in the league from his 16 games. However, that doesn€™t quite match up to United€™s attacking record that has seen them score 36 goals all season; Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have all scored more. It€™s not always the case that the teams that create a lot of chances score the most goals, but despite the creative work that Rooney does his team only takes 13.2 shots per game; eight other sides have performed better than that this season, showing where many of the problems for the Champions lie. Rooney may simply feel that he is not with a team that is playing with enough flair for his liking.
