1. There Are Better Options Out There
When de Gea arrived at Old Trafford as the replacement for the recently-retired Edwin van der Sar, he became the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of British football when he moved from La Liga side Atletico Madrid for £17.8 million. He was heralded as one of the best young goalkeepers in European football, which is why Ferguson spent so much in acquiring his services in the first place. However, these days, there are much better options out there. Asmir Begovic, for instance, has been in inspired form for Stoke City this season and is one of the main reasons why Tony Pulis side have until recent times marshalled a pretty mean defence. Queens Park Rangers shot-stopper Julio Cesar (above) is also in terrific form lately, and made a string of superb saves against Manchester City recently, and is also one of the main reasons why Harry Redknapps side have kept two consecutive clean sheets in the league. The Brazilian also had a terrific game in the friendly against England midweek, making an impeccable save from a point-blank Wayne Rooney header. If Ferguson did want to replace the Spaniard, hed have plenty of good options, and right now, there are simply better goalkeepers out there than David de Gea.
