Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Wesley Sneijder Snub Was Right

3. Position

wessneidjer The simple fact of the matter is that Manchester United do not need another player in that general position. Sneijder may not be a goal scoring playmaker, but he resides in a similar position to Kagawa, and Rooney. United forked out over £20 million in the summer for Shinji Kagawa, so they will not want to infringe on that larger investment. Kagawa is considerably younger than Sneijder, and although he has yet to hit to top form, he has much greater potential. As a relatively attacking midfielder Sneijder would play higher up the field, but it is in this area where Wayne Rooney likes to drop back into, especially with Van Persie playing ahead of him. These three players may not be the same type, but they all share common field position. Manchester United have a plethora of attacking options, so a player like Sneijder is simply not needed. Ferguson will be looking for a deeper central midfielder to anchor the team, and provide some defensive help to a leaky back line. Sneijder is just not the right fit for this current United team!
