Man Utd Transfers: 7 Ridiculous January Targets Moyes Definitely Shouldn't Sign

7. Leighton Baines

Manchester United have long been linked with Leighton Baines. They made two bids for the Everton left-back over the summer - one of £12 million, which was plainly rejected - and a second of £28 million, which was to also include Marouane Fellaini - but was dismissed as "derisory and insulting" by the Toffees. And that's where United's pursuit of Baines should end. At 29, is Baines really the long-term solution to the problem the Red Devils have at left-back - namely, in replacing Patrice Evra? Injury earlier this season, which ruled the England international out for six weeks, suggests it would be unwise to invest in a player who will be 30 this time next year, and is only going to continue to struggle for fitness and form. A more sensible target is 18-year-old Luke Shaw, who has his best years ahead of him and is earning rave reviews this season as Southampton shine under Mauricio Pochettino.
