6. Ezequiel Garay
Another defender who has been continuously linked with a move to United is Ezequiel Garay. The Argentine centre-back admitted back in October that
he was set to join the Red Devils - until David Moyes took charge of the club following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. Ferguson was a keen admirer of the Benfica man and had him scouted on a number of occasions, but Moyes didn't share his predecessor's interest and pulled the plug on the deal. United
have again been linked with a move for Garay recently, but have up-and-coming centre-backs at Old Trafford in Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, who would only fall down the pecking order should the champions sign the 27-year-old, which isn't good for their development. Though Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are on their last legs, it appears Moyes is happy to put his faith in youth rather than dip into the transfer market, which is wise - particularly when players tend to have an over-inflated value in the winter months.
