5. Leighton Baines
Manchester United have seen an opening offer of £12 million for the Everton left-back
knocked back, with manager David Moyes keen on being reunited with the Toffee's star at Old Trafford. The Champions had been expected to make an improved offer after testing the waters, with reports suggesting the Merseyside club would be willing to do business at £18 million. However, Moyes has stopped short of making a second bid, perhaps biding his time until the latter stages of the transfer window before making a new move for the defender. United need reinforcement at left-back this summer considering Patrice Evra is 32 and entering the winter of his career. There's also doubt as to whether understudies Fabio and Alexander Buttner can be relied upon in the position. By bringing in Baines, a tried and trusted left-back, United would have a long-term replacement for the Frenchman and a reassurance that their defence will be in a healthy position for years to come.
