Man Utd Transfers: Sir Alex Ferguson's 5 Best And Worst Signings

3. Cristiano Ronaldo - Signed from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 for £12 Million

What can you actually say about this man? Many fans treat Cristiano Ronaldo as the antagonist whilst Lionel Messi is the protagonist; however fans know very little regarding what Cristiano Ronaldo is like as a human being. Sir Alex signed Cristiano Ronaldo as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon, in an attempt to replace the departing David Beckham who was joining Real Madrid. The move came to fruition as Manchester United took on Sporting Lisbon in a pre-season friendly, after the game the Manchester United plays involved in the match told Sir Alex that he has to sign him. He acted quickly with Arsenal and Liverpool lurking about, but it is safe to say Ronaldo made the best decision of his life by joining Manchester United. At first, it looked as if Sir Alex may have paid a little too much for the show-pony in the early days of the Portuguese winger€™s United career; however he soon showed his true potential and showed that his game included more than a couple of step-overs. He went on to score a massive 42 goals for Manchester United in the 2007-08 season, the season where he helped Manchester United clinch the Champions League crown against Chelsea. The following year he was reluctantly sold to Real Madrid for a world-record fee of £80 million, and it looks like as if we could be seeing a Cristiano Ronaldo return in the near future. There is no doubt that Ronaldo remains one of the greatest purchases in Sir Alex€™s time as Manchester United boss. transfer fee valuation - daily mail
