5. FA Cup Goal Vs Portsmouth
A Wayne Rooney-inspired performance helped Manchester United into the fifth round of the FA Cup back in January 2007. United were denied a blatant goal when a Nemanja Vidic header clearly crossed the line before being cleared by Pedro Mendes and from that point on it looked as though it wouldn't be the Red Devil's day with the game locked at 0-0 and headed for a replay at Fratton Park. However, on the hour mark, on came our man Rooney from the substitutes' bench, after which the result never looked in doubt. First, the striker scored from the easiest of tap-ins after being teed up by Ryan Giggs but his best was yet to come. No.5 on our list is Rooney's second, chipped goal against Pompey. After being teed up on the edge of the penalty area by Gary Neville, Rooney opened his body as if he were about to thump one in. But he deceived everyone before getting his foot under the ball to float in a delightful chip from way out, leaving goalkeeper David James stranded and looking just as astounded by what he had just seen as we were. United went through 2-1 on the day after Kanu bagged a consolation.
