Manchester United's Greatest 23-Man Squad Of The Premier League Era
9. Ryan Giggs (Wales, 1990-2014)
One of the most creative roles on the football pitch, wingers were once primarily tasked with creating heading opportunities for centre forwards through the provision of crosses, though nowadays they are renowned as much for cutting in and getting involved with attacking moves themselves.
Ever since the days of Sir Matt Busby, United have been blessed with a plethora of wing talents, who have been a consistent source of goals and assists for the team's frontmen. In the Premier League era, as with other positions, the most notable of these talents have remained at the club for long periods, freezing out their opposition with their performances. Said players have been supported well in the past by players in the vein of Park Ji-Sung, but either a lack of opportunity or injuries forced out promising prospects such as Shinji Kagawa and Jesper Blomqvist.
Much like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs is the personification of modern-day Manchester United, having given the majority of his life to the betterment of the club. His twenty four years in the first team will never likely be matched by anybody else either at United or at any clubs.
Having already established himself by the time the first Premier League season came around, Giggs went on to score at least once in each of the next twenty one campaigns, frequently adding to an impressive tally that eventually capped at 114, though the best of which arguably came in an FA Cup semi final in 1999 rather than a league match, where the Welshman took on the majority of the Arsenal defence and midfield before blasting the ball past David Seaman.
