Maria Sharapova Cruises Past Sara Errani To Claim French Open Title

Maria Sharapova has completed a career Grandslam with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set victory over Sara Errani in today’s French Open final.

Maria Sharapova has completed a career Grandslam with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set victory over Sara Errani in today€™s French Open final. It was business as usual at Roland Garros today. With no rain delays to interrupt play, Maria Sharapova looked comfortable and at ease on the Phillipe Chatrier court. The twenty-five year old Italian, Errani, did not embarrass herself, she was simply not good enough. Sharapova (no.2 seed), broke the serve of Sara Errani (no.21) early in both sets. Errani showed flashes of what could have been, especially when Sharapova was serving for the match at 5-2 in the second. She tried to switch up her game by approaching the net and employing drop-shots. Nevertheless, the power and determination of Sharapova shone through and the early breaks were enough to clinch the title. Attempting to win her first grand slam in her first ever final, Errani was building on her Australian Open quarter-final experience earlier in the year. Great credit must go to Errani for making the final, however, when comparing this with tomorrows mouth-watering final of Nadal vs Djokovic, the womens€™ game is still inconsistently trailing behind. Even though the womens€™ game is perhaps not what it should be, Sharapova has today managed to complete her career Grandslam, she has won all four of the major tournaments. This is no mean feat. Include the twenty-five year olds staggering troubles with injury, and Sharapova must be commended for her efforts. With the Williams sisters somewhat fading from the game, Sharapova is announcing herself as the one to beat. There is some talent to challenge her. However, with the perennial inconsistency that seems to haunt the women€™s game, Sharapova will now be shifting her focus to Wimbledon to build on todays landmark victory.
