Newcastle 2014-15 Season Review - 6 Best (And 6 Worst) NUFC Performances

3. Newcastle United 2-0 West Ham United (Premier League - May 24th, 2015)

Tyneside was filled with nerves on the final day of the season following a disastrous run of 10 games without a victory for the Magpies. That had left the very-real threat of Newcastle being relegated - but an impressive display against a poor West Ham United side saw John Carver's men over the line. Newcastle were the best side in the first-half but, apart from a couple of misses from Emmanuel Riviere and a speculative header from Daryl Janmaat, they had never really looked like taking the lead. And it was not until the 54th minute that Jonas Gutierrez provided his first of two moments of inspiration to win the match. With Gutierrez delivering a wicked cross into the box, Moussa Sissoko rose highest between two Hammers defenders to power a header past Adrian and send St James' Park wild. However, the fairytale was to reach another high for Gutierrez - with the Argentine skipping inside before unleashing a shot that deflected past Adrian and into the net after 85 minutes. Gutierrez ran off in celebration, whipping his shirt off and heading towards the bench - it was an emotional goal and marks the perfect send-off for the midfielder. What a day for Newcastle United - but no Toon fan wants to see those scenes being repeated again...
