Newcastle: 6 Most Memorable Moments Against Leicester City

2. The Incredible Comeback - 1996/97

Having surrendered so meekly in the away fixture thanks to the absence of Alan Shearer and the heroics of Casey Keller in the Leicester goal, Newcastle made hard work of the home game, despite going ahead thanks to a Robbie Elliot goal. From there though it was dramatically downhill - like in the away game, Newcastle failed to take their chances in front of goal and Leicester hit back first through Matt Elliott, and then through Steve Claridge and Emile Heskey, the Magpies' tormentors at Filbert Street. But then Alan Shearer showed precisely why Newcastle had just paid £15m for him, and how important he was to the side - if it wasn't clear enough from the loss without him in Leicester already. In a frankly astounding come-back, Shearer scored a 13 minute hat-trick starting on the 77th with a bullet free-kick. Inevitably, the fans exploded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUrftdKkFzU
