3. 5-4, All Bets Are Off - 1989/90

Roy Aitken might not have been the incredible success that he should have been at Newcastle - especially when he was dropped to the Reserves for his final year - but his debut was the stuff of legend, and proof that supporting the Magpies is legitimately bad for both mental and physical health. Aitken's signing was seen as the catalyst for Newcastle to get over a slump in form, as Jim Smith saw him as the final piece in his jigsaw. Unfortunately, it didn't quite get off to the best start as Newcastle missed a penalty on the way to Leicester taking a 4-2 lead with the final whistle fast approaching. But then, somehow Newcastle clawed it back and in the dying minutes stole it thanks to a Mark McGhee turn and shot. Incredibly, the following season also saw a 5-4 scoreline, this time to Leicester.
