Newcastle Fans Predict Where Toon Will Finish In 2015-16 Premier League Table

Are NUFC supporters quietly confident? Or are they fearing the worst?

Newcastle United supporters have given their verdict on where they expect the Magpies to finish in the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League table - and 50% believe it will be between ninth and 12th. More than 2,000 Toon fans replied to WhatCulture.com/NUFC's poll asking where the Magpies would finish in the upcoming season, and half of the respondents expect mid-table mediocrity from Steve McClaren's side. That would see McClaren miss out on at least one half of his remit for the campaign, which includes a top-eight finish, as well as a trophy win (or at the very least a good showing in one of the cups).

Although not as pessimistic - or even overly-optimistic and unrealistic, as Toon fans are so often labelled unfairly in the national press - as some may have expected, the fact that 50% (1,084 votes) of respondents do not see Newcastle finishing higher than mid-table shows that significant investment is still needed in the Magpies squad if they are to challenge for Europe in the near future. A mere 4% (87 votes) of the 2,181 respondents expect the Magpies to finish in the bottom three and be relegated, while unsurprisingly even fewer - just 3% (74 votes) - predict Newcastle will qualify for the Champions League by finding themselves in the top four come May. A quarter of respondents (536 votes) think Newcastle will finish between 13th and 16th - essentially where they did in 2014-15 - while 2% (54 votes) expect them to end up in 17th place. Finally, an optimistic 16% (347 votes) believe McClaren will at least meet the Premier League part of his remit. They expect the Magpies to finish between 5th and 8th. There's still 38 Premier League matches to go before we know whether Toon fans are correct in their predictions or not - but, after Sunday's match with Southampton, we may have a bit of a clearer idea...
