Newcastle Look Set To Miss Out On Paco Jemez And Christophe Galtier

The number of options is shortening - and John Carver's chances rapidly increasing...

Newcastle United are rapidly running out of candidates to take over as permanent head coach - with Paco Jemez and Christophe Galtier both now looking unlikely to fill the St James' Park hotseat. Rayo Vallecano boss Jemez is wanted by Ligue 1 side Marseille, who look likely to sack coach Marcelo Bielsa at the end of the season, while Galtier is close to agreeing a new deal at Saint-Etienne due to the fact he has had no official approaches from any other club. Both had been considered viable and exciting contenders for the Magpies post, but interim head coach John Carver is rapidly looking like the only candidate left standing for the role vacated by Alan Pardew when the Londoner left for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year.
Previous favourite Steve McClaren rejected the opportunity to take over at St James' Park for the final three games of the Premier League season and has since committed himself to Derby County - although Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement has seen his odds slashed on becoming the news Rams boss in recent days. Former Lyon boss Remi Garde has also "cooled" his interest in the Newcastle job, while Real Sociedad manager David Moyes insists he does not want to leave Spain this summer.
If the highly-rated duo of Jemez and Galtier are no longer in the running for the Newcastle job, then the field is becoming severely small - and it will narrow even further should the Magpies fail to retain their Premier League status against West Ham United on Sunday. The likelihood of John Carver being in the Magpies hotseat past Sunday is now beginning to look increasingly likely... Paco Jemez would have been a particularly exciting choice.
