Humphreys originally became frustrated with life at the Lancashire club and gave up the dream of playing professionally to return to Sunday League football - until Man City tempted him back . Having started against both Melbourne City and Real Madrid during pre-season, it is clear that Manuel Pellegrini rates Humphreys highly. Yet the Magpies, the Red Devils and the Toffees appear to believe they have a good chance of signing the centre-back once his scholar's contract at Eastlands ends, according to this article. In fact, so impressive has Humphreys' development been, he played for England's Under-17 side at the end age of just 14.
